It is now 10 years since Menter Iaith Fflint and Wrecsam started working with local author Mena Evans to adapt her popular ‘Magi Ann a’i Ffrindiau’ books, written in the 70s, into colourful interactive apps. The intention was to support children aged 3-7 and their families to learn to read in Welsh. The apps were a huge success winning the top prize in the National Lottery Awards for Best Education Project in Great Britain and since then they have gone from strength to strength, with the lovable character and her many friends entertaining crowds at nurseries, schools, libraries, and community festivals.
Over the past two years exciting new developments have been underway as the Menter worked with Mena and the Atebol publishing company to publish all the Magi Ann stories with the books, now in colour, and containing additional educational resources, appearing in 4 Stages which develop gradually as the children learn more challenging patterns and language.

The first stages were launched with celebrations on the Urdd and the National Eisteddfod fields as the children of Wales joined in story and song sessions, took part in a hat treasure hunt or a party, and ate a few cakes! But the Menter has not had the opportunity, until now, to celebrate this latest exciting development in our own area and so with the fourth stage in the series being announced this month we are happy to announce that there will be a Magi Ann Book Celebration to be held in Holywell on Saturday November 18th between 10am and 12pm.
At the Party there will be an opportunity to read and sing in the company of Magi Ann and her friend Tedi, and local magician Professor Llusern will join in to entertain everyone with his magic tricks. There will also be an opportunity for us to thank the author Mena Evans for all her work and support over the years and for those who want to visit the Book Council’s book stall.
