Wrexham St. David’s Day Celebrations

Posted Thursday February 21st, 2019 in the News category

In partnership with Wrexham County Borough Council and Tŷ Pawb, Menter Iaith Fflint a Wrecsam have organised a day of celebration for the whole family on St David’s Day in Tŷ Pawb, Wrexham on Friday, March 1st

Tŷ Pawb will be bustling with stalls selling Welsh produce from 10:00am onwards. There will also be plenty to keep the children entertained, with crafts and a Memory Lane Cinema in the afternoon showing some classic S4C animation for kids, such as Wil Cwac Cwac and Superted.

The annual parade

As usual the annual parade will also assemble outside the Guildhall from 12.45pm before starting at 1.00pm (sharp!) under the inspiring leadership of Band Cambria. The parade will make its way through the town ending in Tŷ Pawb where celebrations will continue with live entertainment from Côr DAW choir and Andie Hickie. The winners of the St. David’s window decorating competition will be announced and everyone will also have an opportunity to sing Calon Lân and the National Anthem. Everyone is welcomed to join the celebrations.

The Chief Officer of Menter Iaith Fflint a Wrecsam, Gill Stephen, said:

“There is a warm welcome for people of all ages to join in the fun again this year, whether they are Welsh speakers or not. This extremely popular event is an opportunity for everyone in Wrexham to celebrate the Welsh identity of the town.

There is also still time for businesses to contact us to register and receive their (free!) starter pack in order to take part in the Window Dressing Competition. The idea is to decorate the windows on a St David’s Day theme and the winning businesses will receive an award and a prize. “

These celebrations are a part of numerous events that will take place across Wales to celebrate our Patron Saint’s Day, so use #DewiWrecsam on social media for information, to share photos, and to follow the event throughout the day.
