Developing Bilingual Communities Project
This project has received funding through the Welsh Government Rural Communities- Rural Development Programme 2014- 2020 which is funded by the European Agricultural Fund for Rural Developments and the Welsh Government.
Aim of the Project
The purpose of the project is to help communities set up new groups or offer support to existing groups, which will then hold events to increase the opportunities to use the Welsh language in their area. Our Development Officer will attend the meetings, offering assistance where necessary including help in applying for grants.
Why set a group?
There are benefits and several reasons for setting a community groups such as:
- Creating more activities and opportunities to socialise in your community
- Developing communication skills
- Learning to engage with people of all ages
- Having the opportunity to practice your Welsh and feel comfortable doing so
- Meeting new people
- Learning new skills
What sort of events?
- Murder Mystery Nights
- Chocolate and Wine Tasting Evenings
- Swishing evenings (Clothes Swap)
- Family fun days
- Folk nights
- Comedy nights
- Fitness and fun sessions
- Treasure hunts
Since starting, our Development Officer has been working with a number of communities; some who have already set up community groups and some who have set up a group with the support of the project.
Treuddyn and Lixwm are two communities she’s been working closely with.
She has also been holding various events such as a Swishing Evening at Mold to promote the project and to show other communities the kind of events that are possible through the project.
