Flintshire’s St David’s Day celebrations are going from strength to strength, with 6 towns now taking part in the Window Dressing Competition for businesses, filling the County with colour and Welsh pride. If you have a chance, it’s worth visiting Mold, Holywell, Flint, Buckley, Connah’s Quay and Shotton to see all the effort and creativity as they battle it out to take the first prize.
This year, Menter Iaith Fflint a Wrecsam, in partnership with Flintshire County Council and Mold Town Council, have organised a fun-filled morning of celebration on Saturday, March 1st, 2025. Here’s an invitation to the whole community to come and celebrate the occasion with us on Market Day on the Daniel Owen Square,
Councillor David Hughes, Leader of Flintshire County Council said:
“We are absolutely delighted to be working with Menter Iaith Fflint a Wrecsam once again to celebrate Dydd Gŵyl Dewi, who have put together a varied programme with something for pawb/everyone.
Dydd Gŵyl Dewi is for everyone who loves Cymru whatever their background and whether they come from Wales or not. It is fantastic to see people of all ages and communities coming together to be part of something special. Throughout the County you can see shops and businesses taking part with their colourful window displays. Everyone is welcome to enjoy the Cymraeg singing and music performances in Yr Wyddgrug/Mold on 1st March.
Dydd Gŵyl Dewi Hapus bawb!
There will be an opportunity during the morning to listen to music from the incredible Megan Lee and others on the Daniel Owen stage before hearing the results of the Mold window dressing competition. To conclude the morning Côr y Pentan and local harpist Emily Owens will entertain us back at the Daniel Owen Centre.
There will of course be an opportunity to visit all the town’s businesses and the hustle and bustle of the weekly market, we are pretty sure there will be plenty of daffodils for sale and a warm welcome too.
Jonathan Thomas, Flintshire Markets Officer said
“St David’s Day is more than a celebration, it’s a vibrant testament to our Welsh heritage, a day to honour our patron saint, embrace our culture and unite as a community. We are so grateful to be working with Menter Iaith and the Daniel Owen Centre so we can bring such events into the heart of Mold”.
These celebrations are part of a series of events taking place across Wales to celebrate our Patron Saint. We encourage everyone to use the hashtag #DewiSiryFflint on social media to share photos, information, and stories from the event throughout the day.
